Hillshire Farm® Chopped Italian Hoagies
Prep Time: 10 minutes | Cook Time: 5 minutes | Serves: 4
Ingredients
- Hillshire Farm® Ultra Thin Black Forest Ham, chopped
- Hillshire Farm® Ultra Thin Oven Roasted Turkey Breast, chopped
- Hillshire Farm® Sandwich Style Pepperoni, chopped
- 12 slices provolone or American cheese
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
- 4 hoagie or Italian rolls, sliced
- ½ head iceberg lettuce, shredded
- 1 medium tomato, diced
- ¼ small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/3 cup pepperoncini peppers, chopped
- Splash of pepperoncini juice
- 3 tbsp mayonnaise
- ½ tbsp red wine vinegar
- 2 tsp oregano
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Directions
- In a medium bowl, combine the shredded lettuce, diced tomato, sliced red onion and chopped pepperoncini. Add the pepperoncini juice, mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, oregano, salt and black pepper. Toss until evenly coated and set aside.
- Chop the Hillshire Farm® meats into small pieces. Add to a lightly oiled cooking surface over medium-low heat. Using two spatulas, chop and mix the meats together while warming them through. Season lightly with oregano, salt and pepper.
- Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions. Top each portion with three slices of cheese and let the cheese begin to melt.
- Place each hoagie roll cut-side down, over the melted cheese and let them steam for 30 to 60 seconds, until the bread is warmed.
- Carefully transfer each portion of meat and cheese into a roll.
- Top generously with the prepared salad mixture and serve immediately.
Tips for the Best Hoagie
Don’t skip the salad topping. The combination of lettuce, tomato, onion and pepperoncini brings freshness and crunch that balances the rich meats and cheese.
Chop the meat evenly. Smaller pieces help create the signature chopped sandwich texture and ensure every bite is packed with flavor.
Serve immediately. These sandwiches are at their best while the cheese is hot and melty and the toppings are crisp and cool.
