Classic Mummy Hot Dogs
A Halloween party classic that’s equal parts spooky and delicious. Wrapped in crescent roll dough and finished with candy eyes, these golden-baked “mummies” come together in about 20 minutes and make for a fun activity for kids and adults alike.
Ingredients:
- 8 Ball Park® Hot Dogs
- 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 16 candy eyes (or mustard/ketchup for dotting)
- 1 tsp cooking oil spray or melted butter
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and pat the hot dogs dry with paper towels.
- Unroll both cans of crescent dough and press the perforations together to seal into large rectangles. Cut each rectangle into thin strips, about ¼ inch wide.
- Wrap the dough strips around each hot dog, gently stretching as you go to mimic mummy bandages. Crisscross the strips and leave a small gap near the top for the face. Tuck the seam underneath so it stays put.
- Place the wrapped hot dogs seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly spray or brush with 1 tsp of cooking oil spray or melted butter.
- Bake until the dough is golden and puffed, and the dot dogs are heated through.
- While still warm, dot the bare face area with a bit of mustard/ketchup, then press on the candy eyes, if desired. Serve immediately.
Note: These can be assembled ahead and refrigerated, then baked just before serving.
Creepy Spider Hot Dogs
Looking for something a little different? These spider hot dogs put a seasonal twist on pigs in a blanket. As they bake, the sliced hot dog ends curl into spider-like legs, creating a fun and playful centerpiece for any Halloween spread.
Ingredients:
- 8 Ball Park® Hot Dogs
- 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 16 candy eyes (or mustard/ketchup for dotting)
- 1 tsp cooking oil spray or melted butter
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Using a sharp knife, make 3-4 lengthwise slices into each end of the 8 hot dogs, cutting about halfway through, leaving a finger’s width of uncut hot dog in the center for the body. This creates 4 “legs” on each side.
- Unroll the can of refrigerated crescent roll dough and press the perforations together to seal. Cut into thin strips, about ½ inch wide.
- Wrap one strip of dough around the center (body) of each hot dog, pinching to seal and leaving the leg sections uncovered.
- Place the seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet, spaced apart so the legs have room to curl. Lightly spray or brush with 1 tsp of cooking oil spray or melted butter.
- Bake until the dough is golden brown and the legs have curled up.
- Once out of the oven, dot the face with mustard/ketchup, then press on the candy eyes, if desired. Serve immediately.
Note: Serve warm with a ketchup-and-mustard spiderweb dip. Pour ketchup into a bowl, draw mustard circles on top, then drag a toothpick through them to create the web design.
Bloody Hot Dog Fingers
If your Halloween celebration leans more spooky than sweet, these frightfully realistic hot dog fingers are sure to be a conversation starter. A few simple cuts transform Ball Park® Beef Hot Dogs into a creepy creation that’s perfect for Halloween parties, haunted house gatherings or daring guests who love a good scare.
Ingredients:
- 8 Ball Park® Hot Dogs
- ½ cup ketchup
Directions:
- Lay each hot dog on a cutting board. Near one end, slice off a thin, shallow layer from the top to create a flat nail bed. Do not cut too deep; just remove the top layer.
- Below the nail, make 2-3 sets of small knuckle marks: one straight slit with a slight curved slit directly above and below it, cutting about a third of the way through the hot dog.
- Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the carved hot dogs and cook until heated through and the cuts open slightly.
- Remove from the water and drain.
- Smear or drizzle the ketchup generously at the nail end and let it pool around the “finger.” Serve immediately.
Note: Ketchup is the classic choice for the “bloody” effect, but barbecue sauce can create a darker, thicker look for even more drama.
These Ball Park® recipes are an easy way to bring festive flavor to any celebration. Pick your favorite or make all three for a Halloween spread that’s certain to disappear before the night is over.
